Applied Positive Psychology is unique to The Gap State High School. The department has two subject areas.  Applied Positive Psychology (APP) and Psychology curriculum is informed by the Australian Curriculum’s Personal and Social Capabilities research-based models of Positive Psychology in Education and the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA).

APPs is compulsory for all students in Year 7-12.  It is a personal development program that aims to educate the whole student.  It provides students with a series of experiential learning activities that

  • build and develop character and leadership capacity in all students
  • help students to gain skills to better their sense of wellbeing

All year levels are invited to attend specialised camps to apply the skills developing in the APP program each of the years studied.

Psychology is a subject offered exclusively in the Senior School and is part of the new Queensland Certificate of Education.  Students undertake units of study around the science of cognition and human behaviour.

For more information regarding studies in APP, please refer to the Curriculum Handbook.
