The language department of
The Gap State High School currently offers Chinese as an additional language in
Years 7-12. We know that humans are wired to share stories and that
language acquisition occurs through first listening, then speaking,
reading and writing.
In our Junior program, we
engage students by immersing them in core language from the beginning of
the program. This helps them participate in their stories and
accumulate language more readily. This extends in our Senior program that
aims to create fluent, proficient and confident communicators.
By studying Chinese
students will:
develop a curiosity and understanding of other
cultures
Open their minds and create opportunities for global
understanding
Practise kindness while learning new skills in
unfamiliar contexts
In Years 7-8 students
study three semesters of Chinese. It Years 9-12
students can elect to continue their language studies.
For further information
regarding the study of languages please refer to the Curriculum Handbooks.
